Water Soluble Vitamins

Vitamins are organic nutrients that often function as coenzymes within the body. Coenzymes attach to enzymes (apoenzymes) to speed up and enhance productivity. Vitamins are not synthesized by the body and must be obtained by diet. Some vitamins are formed by certain molecules which are known as provitamins. Other vitamins, such as vitamins A, C, and E, are termed antioxidants.

Another major group of vitamins are water-soluble vitamins. Water soluble vitamins are involved as coenzymes for metabolic reactions of macronutrients and other body processes. Water soluble vitamins include vitamin C, vitamin B₁, vitamin B₂, vitamin B₃, vitamin B₅, vitamin B₆, vitamin B₇, vitamin B₉, vitamin B₁₂, and choline (vitamin-like). Water-soluble vitamins are excreted from the body faster than fat-soluble vitamins, often in urine.
